The July issue of CQ starts out with a look at DXing from Samoa, which author Dennis Ward, KT8X, describes as "a DX Paradise." Then, closer to home, Public Service Editor Bob Josuweit, WA3PZO, features an interview with Bill Proenza, the Director of the National Hurricane Center, as well as a tour of a "hurricane hunter" aircraft. July is the month for the CQ World Wide VHF Contest (July 21-22 this year), and while we reported last year's record-smashing results in our April issue and this year's rules in June, we also wanted to bring you the story of one of the top contenders - K3EAR, which won the multiop category with an all-time record score - as told by the group's leader, Walt Nero, WA1HHN, in this month's cover story. Speaking of contests, we also have the results of the 2007 CQ WPX RTTY Contest, which featured the largest number of entries ever for any RTTY contest, as well as the rules for this fall's CQ WW RTTY DX Contest. Our July issue also features this year's inductees into the CQ Amateur Radio, Contesting and DXing Halls of Fame. This year, we have 15 new member of the Amateur Radio Hall of Fame as well as three new members each in the Contesting and DXing Halls of Fame. Congratulations to all! Washington Editor Fred Maia, W5YI, brings us a special report on an FCC decision to abandon two rulemaking actions that aimed at helping bring interference issues under control by mandating interference immunity standards for receivers and instituting a controversial concept called "interference temperature." In July's columns, "Math's Notes" editor Irwin Math, WA2NDM, offers plans for building inexpensive testers for transistors, diodes and LEDs; "Magic in the Sky" editor Jeff Reinhardt, AA6JR, tells us why he's "Proud to be a 'Radio Geek' "; and Beginner's Editor Wayne Yoshida, KH6WZ, makes "The Case for the Code." Antennas Editor Kent Britain, WA5VJB, looks as multiplexing "Many Transmitters (on) One Antenna," while "How it Works" editor Dave Ingram, K4TWJ, continues his "Behind the Dials" look at transmitters. "Weekender" editor Phil Salas, AD5X, has plans for building an AC line-isolated high voltage power supply for vacuum tube projects; Washington Editor W5YI returns with his main "Washington Readout" column, which this month answers readers' questions on various topics; New Products Editor Karl Thurber, W8FX, looks at a Control Station Combiner from Bird Technologies, an amplified mobile speaker from MFJ and a variety of other new products; and "World of Ideas" editor K4TWJ takes us "Mobiling to the Max." Awards Editor Ted Melinosky, K1BV, discusses the importance of indicating a station's city or town on USA-Counties Award applications, and covers a variety of other interesting awards as well; DX Editor Carl Smith, N4AA, has a preliminary report on the BS7H operation from Scarborough Reef, and Contesting Editor John Dorr, K1AR, writes about "The Dangers of Packet Spotting." "VHF-Plus" editor Joe Lynch, N6CL, follows up on an earlier column about "Tapping into the Space Grant Consortia," while Propagation Editor Tomas Hood, NW7US, continues his series on propagation basics, focusing this month on "The Ever-Fluctuating Solar Flux." That's a brief look at what's coming up in the July issue of CQ magazine, which should be on newsstands and in subscribers' mailboxes by late June.
