Announcements Ham Radio, Scouts, and Summer – Scout camps with ham stations across the nation are encouraged to try to contact each other throughout the summer. Recommended times are each Monday through Thursday, at approximately 1:00 PM and 7:00 PM, local time, on 20 or 40 meters (depending on propagation), and 9:00 PM, local time, on 40 or 80 meters. Standard scout SSB calling frequencies of 14.290, 7.270, and 3.740/3.940 MHz (± other activity) are recommended. Suggested protocol is to call “CQ Scout Camps” between 5 minutes before the hour and 5 minutes after the hour, starting on the higher frequency band and moving down if the higher band has no propagation. Operation on repeaters that cover the scout camp is also encouraged. Scouts, scouters, scout camps, and other interested hams are urged to monitor whenever possible between 2300Z and 0400Z, and again from 1700Z to 2000Z, in order to provide support to scout camps with traffic handling and talking with scouts. Missouri Space Museum – The Space Museum in Bonne Terre, Missouri has announced its first full summer of operation this year. It is perhaps the largest privately owned collection of space artifacts in Missouri and includes artifacts previously owned by the astronauts. It is open on Saturdays only, but special times are available for tours and field trips. Contact the museum at 573-358-1200; leave a message. To acknowledge the many contributions ham radio enthusiasts have made to space exploration, the museum will discount admission by $1.00 if you present your ham license or QSL card.
