AO-40 Birthday Bash – AMSAT is sponsoring this event from 0000Z Sept. 16 to 0000Z Nov. 17 to celebrate AO-40’s third birthday. Hams worldwide are invited to participat and awards will be given. International Search and Rescue Competition – ISAR 2003, sponsored by the Society of Newfoundland Radio Amateurs (SONRA) and the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, will be held in St. John’s, Newfoundland Sept. 26–27 and highlights the role amateur radio can play in emergency preparedness.HF and VHF (via the Internet Radio LInking Project [IRLP]) stations will demonstrate the capability of amateur radio to link up local emergency organizations and to communicate with other emergency agencies around the world. For the event SONRA has access to four nodes, with VO1AAA #2360 and VO1CCG #2300 being the primary ones. Special event station VO1SAR will be on 7.275, 14.275, 21.375, and 28.400 MHz; exchange signal reports (no QSL route given). A coooemorative QSL will be available.
